HOWIE LONG (Jesse) currently serves as one of the hosts (along with Terry Bradshaw, Ronnie Lott and James Brown) of "Fox NFL Sunday," the most-watched pre- game show in America. He was awarded a Sports Emmy Award for his work on the program.
Long made his professional acting debut in John Woo's powerful box office hit, "Broken Arrow," opposite John Travolta and Christian Slater. Long was subsequently signed to a three-picture deal with Twentieth Century Fox.
One of professional football's most honored players, Long was a member of the Los Angeles Raiders for thirteen years. Long's many gridiron accomplishments and honors include being selected to the Pro Bowl seven times, more than any defensive lineman in the past decade; being voted Defensive Player of the Year by the NFL's head coaches (and twice by his peers); and helping to lead the Raiders to a Super Bowl victory in 1983. Long was named to the first team of the "All Decade of the '80s" as chosen by the Hall of Fame selection committee.
After retiring from football, Long became a broadcaster, hosting "Inside Pro Football," a national weekly sports radio show. He hosted the pre-game and post-game shows during the 1996-1997 Super Bowl, which were the highest rated shows in the history of the Super Bowl. His other broadcasting credits include ESPN's "Up Close," HBO's "Inside the NFL, The Weekly NFL Diary" and NBC's "NFL Live." He has also been featured in many national commercials, and has been featured on the covers of numerous publications including Sports Illustrated, GQ, and Sport.
Throughout his career, Long has made numerous personal appearances, speaking to students of all ages, community service organizations and business leaders. He has spent countless hours involved in charity work, participating in numerous celebrity golf, tennis and basketball tournaments benefiting many different charities. For many years he has been National Chairman for Athletes and Entertainers for Kids. Another personal highlight has been the annual mini golf tournament he hosts for youngsters. He has been chairman of HEART, which aids battered women and children
Earlier this year, Long hosted the 20th anniversary special for the re-release of the Star Wars Trilogy. He has been named "Male Star of Tomorrow for 1997" by ShoWest, sharing the honor with past recipients Brad Pitt, Chris O'Donnell and Will Smith.
Long and his wife Diane live in Charlottesville, Virginia and have three sons, Christopher, Kyle and Howard.
