has
collaborated with Alfonso Cuarón on numerous films, including "A Little Princess," for
which he received an Academy Award nomination. His recent film credits include Mike
Nichols' comedy smash "The Birdcage" starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, and
Alfonso Arau's sensual drama "A Walk in the Clouds."
Lubezki earned an Ariel Award for "Like Water For Chocolate," becoming the
youngest recipient ever of Mexico's highest cinematography award. In fact, Lubezki
earned the Mexican Academy Award (Ariel) three years in a row; in 1993 for "Ambar"
and in 1992 for "Miroslava." He received an Ariel nomination in 1991 (the same year he
won for "Like Water For Chocolate") for the film, "Love in the Time of Hysteria,"
Cuarón's feature debut. His other film credits include "The Harvest," "Twenty Bucks"
and "Reality Bites."
Lubezki's television credits include Steven Soderbergh's "The Quiet Room" and
Alfonso Cuarón's "Murder Obliquely." The latter earned him the CableACE Award for
Best Cinematography in a Dramatic Series.
Born and reared in Mexico City, Lubezki studied filmmaking and history at the
National University of Mexico City. Shortly after his graduation, he produced with
Alfonso Cuarón the feature "A Long Way to Tijuana" before becoming the director of photography for the hit Mexican western "Bandidos."
