is the first "Alien" film to feature fully-articulated, computer-generated creatures. These CG aliens were used in tandem with their "traditional" brethren -- state-of-the-art puppets of various sizes and full-scale alien suits. These were often worn by Tom Woodruff Jr., who, along with his partner Alec Gillis, also created the creatures in "Aliens".
In addition to utilizing computer techniques to make subtle but important changes in the creatures, Woodruff and Gillis took on the additional challenges of reuniting several types of aliens, all of which had appeared in the other films.
The famous "Queen" alien also returns, although it required some frantic searching to locate her. The dormant molds fromwhich the Queen was born were locked into storage since its last appearance in "Aliens." In addition, the giant life-scale puppet was inexplicably missing. Finally, Woodruff and Gillis located her in the possession of an avid "Alien" collector, who kindly lent the Queen back to her creators. The
Queen was thus resurrected for the new film. As with all the "Alien" films, Woodruff and Gillis introduced a new beast to ALIEN RESURRECTION. The process of creating the new creature -- which will remain a tightly guarded secret until the film's November 26 release -- offered many challenges to the effects team and to director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Gillis and Woodruff presented Jeunet with sketches and artwork and he chose the direction from that. Over a period of several months, the team put together numerous drawings as well as sculptures that allowed Jeunet to see the concepts in three dimensions.
